LinkedIn Proxy Windows, Mac and Phone Setup on One Steady IP

LinkedIn works on

  • Web
  • Android
  • iOS
  • Windows

Key facts

  • No proxy setting in LinkedIn

LinkedIn's website and apps have no proxy option. Set the proxy in Windows or macOS for the browser, and in phone Wi-Fi settings or a proxy client app for the mobile app.

  • LinkedIn's own advice

LinkedIn's sign-in security article lists 'Avoid using a VPN or a proxy server' as a way to see fewer security challenges. Expect an occasional prompt with any proxy.

  • User Agreement

One account per person, in your real name. Section 8.2 bans bots, scrapers and using someone else's account via shared logins or copied cookies; a breach can get the account restricted or terminated, proxy or not.

Where the proxy goes for LinkedIn

Where you set the proxy decides which LinkedIn traffic uses it.

Which proxy type to use with LinkedIn

LinkedIn may add a security check for sign-ins from unfamiliar locations, so keep one account on one IP.

Best outside the US

Residential proxies

from $0.27/GB

Target your own country, state or city on a sticky port and raise the lifetime from the 10-minute default toward 24 hours.

Best for LinkedIn

ISP proxies

from $1.25/IP

Each sign-in comes from one Dedicated IP you keep, but Geonode's Dedicated stock is focused on the United States; elsewhere, use residential targeted to your country.

Not for your account

Datacenter proxies

from $0.14/GB

A data center IP, not a home or mobile one, is an unusual source for a personal LinkedIn sign-in.

How to set up a proxy for LinkedIn

For an ISP proxy, take the IP, port, username and password from your ISP proxy list in the Geonode dashboard; for residential, use proxy.geonode.io, an HTTP sticky port (10000 to 10900) and your proxy login.

  1. On Windows 11, open Settings > Network & internet > Proxy, select Set up next to Use a proxy server, turn it on, fill in Proxy IP address and Port, and Save.

  2. On a Mac, open System Settings > Network > your service > Details > Proxies, turn on Secure web proxy (HTTPS) and Proxy server requires password, fill in the fields and click OK.

  3. Open linkedin.com. If the browser asks for the proxy login, enter the proxy username and password, not your LinkedIn password.

  4. Sign in, then approve any prompt with 'Yes, it's me' in the LinkedIn app or the emailed code.

How to check which IP LinkedIn sees

  1. On linkedin.com, open Me > Settings & Privacy > Sign in & security > Where you're signed in. In the app, tap your profile picture > Settings > Sign in & security > Where you're signed in.

  2. Check that your newest session lists the proxy's IP next to its browser or device.

  3. Load the Geonode What is my IP page through the same browser or Wi-Fi. If the IPs differ even after you sign out and back in, LinkedIn traffic bypasses the proxy.

How to stop using the proxy for LinkedIn

  1. Turn off Use a proxy server (Windows) or Secure web proxy (Mac), set Proxy to None (Android), or set Configure Proxy to Off (iPhone, iPad).

  2. In 'Where you're signed in', end the proxied sessions (Sign out on desktop, END in the app) and confirm with your password.

Common LinkedIn proxy problems and fixes

  • Proxy server error when you open linkedin.com

    Cause
LinkedIn never gets the request. Chrome shows 'No internet' and 'There is something wrong with the proxy server, or the address is incorrect', and Chrome and Edge both report ERR_PROXY_CONNECTION_FAILED.
    Fix
Turn off any proxy you didn't mean to set in Windows or macOS. Otherwise test the host and port in the Geonode proxy checker. If only LinkedIn fails, look for a setup script aimed at linkedin.com.
  • Security check or emailed code at every sign-in

    Cause
A rotating port, or a sticky session left at its default lifetime, keeps handing LinkedIn a new IP.
    Fix
Use one ISP IP or a long sticky session, and stay signed in during the day: LinkedIn remembers your latest sign-in for a while. With two-factor authentication on, it also emails you after each sign-in from a new browser and after you clear cookies, so avoid private windows.
  • LinkedIn shows the wrong city or time zone

    Cause
Behind a proxy, 'Where you're signed in' records the city and state of the proxy's IP for each sign-in.
    Fix
On residential, target your state or city. An ISP IP keeps the city and state shown in your ISP proxy list. If the time zone stays wrong, use 'Sign out of all these sessions' and sign in again.
  • Account restricted after signing in via a proxy

    Cause
LinkedIn saw signs of a takeover, or detected an automation tool or browser extension.
    Fix
Complete the identity check, where Persona asks for a photo of a government ID. If the notice cites automation, disable the tool and wait until the time it gives.

LinkedIn proxy FAQ

They are ordinary HTTP or SOCKS5 proxies that carry your LinkedIn traffic, and LinkedIn records the proxy's IP instead of yours. For one account, a proxy that keeps the same IP works best.

In the US, use an ISP proxy kept for your account alone: LinkedIn may challenge sign-ins from unfamiliar locations, and an assigned ISP IP stays the same while it is in your plan. Elsewhere, use a residential sticky session of several hours set to your country, because Geonode's Dedicated ISP stock is US-focused.

LinkedIn has none, in its apps or on linkedin.com. Set the proxy in Windows, macOS or your phone's Wi-Fi settings instead.

Your browser points at a proxy it cannot reach, and the request never gets to LinkedIn. Switch off a proxy you don't need, or correct the host and port of the one you use.

Yes, but expect a check at first: a 'Yes, it's me' prompt in the app, an emailed code, a CAPTCHA, or a PIN code with two-factor authentication on a new device. Then keep the same IP.

Set a proxy in a country where LinkedIn is available and load linkedin.com. At work, LinkedIn's help suggests asking your helpdesk whether a firewall blocks it.

Not under LinkedIn's rules. User Agreement section 8.2 bans bots and scripts that scrape profiles or other data, and getting around use limits on search results and profiles. A proxy doesn't lift the sign-in wall either; signed-out visitors see only what a member makes public.
