How Netflix picks your country
Netflix works out your location from your IP address (Privacy Statement). The catalog follows the country of the IP you connect from; the account country is the one you signed up in.
Plans with ads and Live events
Netflix's help center says VPNs aren't supported on an ad-supported plan or for watching Live events. On those, expect the proxy error whatever IP you use.
Terms of Use
Section 1.5 limits viewing primarily to your account country; Netflix may treat a proxy as circumventing content protections under 1.8.
Ways to route Netflix through a proxy
The Netflix apps have no proxy field, so where you set the proxy depends on the device. Netflix checks the IP, so the method doesn't change blocking.

How to set up a proxy for Netflix
Copy the proxy host, port, username and password from your Geonode dashboard. Then set the proxy on the device you watch on.
Open Settings > Network & internet > Proxy.
Under Manual proxy setup, click Set up next to Use a proxy server.
Turn on Use a proxy server.
Enter the host in Proxy IP address and the number in Port.
Click Save.
Open netflix.com in Chrome or Edge and enter the proxy username and password when the browser asks.

Open Geonode's What is my IP page in the same browser or on the same phone; it should show the proxy IP and country.
Go to fast.com, Netflix's speed test, and click Show more info. The country next to Client is the one Netflix sees, and the speed should stay above the rate your video quality needs.
Play a title for a minute. No error and a picture that reaches HD means the proxy works.
How to turn the proxy off
Windows: in Settings > Network & internet > Proxy, click Edit next to Use a proxy server and switch it off. macOS: turn off the proxy under Details > Proxies. iPhone: set Configure Proxy back to Off.
Android: tap Disconnect in the proxy client app, then force-stop Netflix so it opens a new connection.
Common Netflix proxy problems and fixes
'You seem to be using a VPN or proxy' (error E106)
- The proxy IP is on Netflix's VPN and proxy list
- Switch to a new residential IP by starting a new sticky session, then reload the title.

- Target a specific country in the proxy username, then sign out of Netflix and sign back in.

- Sign out and back in to refresh the device. If the error is still there, check that the title is still listed in that country.

It's the error 'You seem to be using a VPN or proxy' (code E106). Netflix shows it when your IP belongs to a known VPN or proxy service, or when a VPN is on while you use a plan with ads. Turn the VPN or proxy off and the error goes away.
Your device connects to Netflix through a proxy server, so Netflix sees the proxy's IP and country instead of yours. When Netflix detects a VPN or proxy IP, it stops playback with error E106, and on plans with ads or during Live events it doesn't support VPNs at all.
A residential proxy with a sticky session. The IP comes from a home ISP and doesn't change during the stream. Datacenter and free proxies usually get error E106.
Usually not directly. Stock smart TV and router firmware rarely has a proxy option, and most home routers can't forward traffic to an HTTP or SOCKS5 proxy with a username and password. The realistic choices are a router running custom firmware with a proxy client, or casting from a phone or computer that uses the proxy. A proxy on the TV also changes the IP Netflix uses to define your household.
You need a proxy client app with SOCKS5 and username and password support. Add your proxy there, route the Netflix app through it and restart Netflix. Android's built-in Wi-Fi proxy is HTTP only with no password fields, so it works only with IP-whitelisted proxies.
Netflix's help pages talk about blocking the stream with error E106, not closing accounts. Watching another country's catalog still breaks the Terms of Use, which say you may watch primarily in the country where you set up the account.
Netflix checks only the IP, so it treats both the same. VPN server IPs are shared by many users, which makes a residential proxy less likely to get blocked. A VPN is easier to set up on a phone because it covers every app.
