How to set up a proxy for X (Twitter)
Have the proxy host and port ready, plus the proxy username and password.
Open Settings > Network & internet > Proxy.
Under Manual proxy setup, click Set up next to Use a proxy server.
Turn on Use a proxy server.
Enter the host in Proxy IP address and the port in Port.
Click Save.
Open x.com in Chrome or Edge and enter the proxy username and password when the browser asks.

Open the Geonode What is my IP page in the same browser, or on the same Wi-Fi for the app. It should show the proxy IP and country.
In X, open Settings and privacy > Security and account access > Apps and sessions > Sessions. The current session lists an approximate location, which should match the proxy country.
X may also send a login alert by push or email for a new IP. If one arrives, the location it names should be the proxy country.
How to turn the proxy off
Windows: Settings > Network & internet > Proxy, click Edit next to Use a proxy server and turn it off. macOS: Network > Details > Proxies, turn off Secure web proxy (HTTPS), click OK.
iPhone and iPad: Settings > Wi-Fi > (i) > Configure Proxy > Off. Android: edit the Wi-Fi network and set Proxy to None.
Common X proxy problems and fixes
X still shows your real location
- Firefox is set to No proxy, an extension overrides the system setting, or the phone is on mobile data
- Check the IP in the same browser or on the same Wi-Fi. In Firefox choose Use system proxy settings. On a phone, turn off mobile data while testing.

- You logged in through an IP on X's VPN and proxy list, which datacenter and free proxy IPs often are
- Log in only through a residential or ISP IP in the country you actually use X from, and keep that IP for the account. X hasn't said how soon the label goes away.
CauseFixAccount locked or asked to verify phone or email after login
- The login came from a new country or the IP changed between requests, which X treats as a suspicious login
- Complete the check. Then use an IP in the country you usually log in from, with a sticky session or an ISP proxy, and keep it for that account.

- X autoplays video at full quality through the proxy, or the proxy country is far from you
- Turn on Data saver in Settings and privacy > Accessibility, display, and languages > Data usage so videos don't autoplay through the proxy. If it's still slow, pick a proxy country closer to you.

Any HTTP or SOCKS5 proxy that the X app or your browser sends traffic through. X then sees the proxy's IP and country instead of yours. There is no special proxy type for X.
Yes. Public HTTP, HTTPS and SOCKS5 proxies from the Geonode free proxy list work with X for a quick test. Other people use them too and they go offline often, so don't log in to your X account through one.
You can't, because the X app and x.com have no proxy setting. Set the proxy in your phone's Wi-Fi settings, in Windows or macOS network settings, or in your browser. X uses it from then on.
