Where the proxy goes
Google Play has no proxy field. Set the proxy in a proxy client app or the Android Wi-Fi settings on the phone, or in the system proxy on a computer.
Country change rules
Google Play Help says that to add a new country you must be in that country and have a payment method from there. Once you set a Play country, the next change is at least 90 days away. If you are in a Google Family group, you can't change the country.
What you lose when you switch
Your Google Play balance stays in the old country, and you can spend it again if you switch back. Your Play Points are lost when you change country, and your level does not carry over.
Ways to route Google Play through a proxy
Google Play has no proxy setting of its own, so the proxy goes into Android, a proxy client app or the computer you open play.google.com on.

How to set up a proxy for Google Play
Copy the proxy host (hostname or IP), port, username and password from your Geonode dashboard before you start.
Install a proxy client app from Google Play that supports SOCKS5 with a username and password.
Add a new SOCKS5 profile with the proxy host, port, username and password.
If the app supports per-app routing, select Google Play Store and Google Play services.
Tap Connect and allow the VPN connection request when Android asks.
Open Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > Storage & cache and tap Clear cache (Samsung: Settings > Apps > Google Play Store > Storage > Clear cache).
Open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, then Settings > General > Account and device preferences > Country and profiles.
Pick the new country and add a payment method from that country.

Open Geonode's What is my IP page in Chrome on the same phone or computer. It should show the proxy IP and country.
In the Play Store, open Settings > General > Account and device preferences > Country and profiles. If Google Play accepts the proxy location, the proxy country appears as an option to add.
After you switch, search for an app that is only published in the new country and check that the Install button shows.
How to turn the proxy off
Android proxy app: tap Disconnect. Android Wi-Fi: set Proxy back to None under Advanced options.
Windows: in Settings > Network & internet > Proxy, click Edit next to Use a proxy server and switch it off.
macOS: in System Settings > Network > your network > Details > Proxies, turn off Web proxy (HTTP) and Secure web proxy (HTTPS).
Turning the proxy off does not change your Play country back. The new country stays until you change it again, at least 90 days later.
Common Google Play proxy problems and fixes
Country and profiles shows only your current country
- A Play country rule is blocking the change, the Play Store is not using the proxy, or Google Play is not relying on the IP alone
- Check What is my IP from the same phone. If it shows the proxy country, check the Country change rules above. Google Play may also use location signals other than the IP.
CauseFixThe store still shows the old country after you switch
- The profile update has not finished, or the Play Store is showing cached pages
- Google says a profile update can take up to 48 hours. Wait that long, then clear the Play Store cache as in the setup steps and reopen it.
CauseFixThe new country's payment card is declined
- The card was issued in another country, or its billing address is outside the new country
- Use a card issued in the new country with a billing address there. A proxy changes only the IP, not where your card was issued.
