Opera GX is the same as Opera
Opera GX has no proxy option of its own. It uses the same settings link as Opera One, and both follow the Windows or macOS proxy.
Opera Mini data savings
With data savings on, Opera Mini loads pages through Opera's servers. The connection comes from an Opera IP, but Mini sends your own IP in the X-Forwarded-For header, so it does not hide you from sites. You can't pick a country or add your own proxy.
Where the proxy setting is
Settings (Alt+P on Windows) > Advanced > Browser > System > Open your computer's proxy settings. Opera has no proxy form of its own.
Ways to connect Opera to a proxy
How well each method gets past blocks depends on the IP type you buy, not on the method. The difference is how many apps it changes and how fast you can switch.

Good enough to check that Opera picks up the system proxy. The person running a free proxy can see the sites you open, so don't sign in to Opera sync or any account through one.
How to set up a proxy for Opera
Copy the host, port, proxy username and proxy password from your provider's dashboard before you start.
In Opera or Opera GX, open the menu and click Settings, or press Alt+P.
In the left sidebar, click Advanced, then Browser.
Under System, click Open your computer's proxy settings.
In Windows Settings > Network & internet > Proxy, click Set up next to Use a proxy server.
Turn on Use a proxy server and enter the host in Proxy IP address and the port in Port.
Click Save.
Open any site in Opera and enter the proxy username and password when the sign-in dialog appears.

Open geonode.com/what-is-my-ip in Opera. You should see the proxy's IP and country, not your own.
If a VPN badge shows in the address bar, turn Opera VPN off (see troubleshooting).
Open a private window with Ctrl+Shift+N (Cmd+Shift+N on macOS) and check the IP again. A system proxy applies there too.
How to turn the proxy off in Opera
Windows: go to Settings > Network & internet > Proxy, click Set up next to Use a proxy server, turn off Use a proxy server and click Save.
macOS: go to System Settings > Network, select the service, click Details > Proxies, turn off each proxy type and click OK.
Flag or extension: start Opera from a shortcut without --proxy-server, or turn the extension off on the extensions page (Ctrl+Shift+E).
Common Opera proxy problems and fixes
Opera GX shows "No internet" and suggests checking the proxy
- The system proxy points to a wrong host or port, a dead free proxy, or a proxy plan that has ended
- Compare the host and port with your dashboard and test the proxy in the Geonode proxy checker. If you don't need it, turn the system proxy off.
CauseFixSites still show a different IP from your proxy
- Opera's built-in VPN is on and sends browser traffic to Opera's servers
- Go to Settings > Advanced > Features, turn off Enable VPN under VPN, and reload the page.
CauseFixSign-in dialog keeps coming back, or pages return error 407
- Wrong proxy username or password, or your Geonode account login typed in instead
- Copy the proxy username and password from the proxy dashboard and enter them again.
CauseFixA SOCKS5 proxy with a username and password does not connect
- Opera runs on Chromium, which does not send SOCKS5 usernames and passwords
- Use the HTTP endpoint of the same proxy plan, or a SOCKS5 proxy without a login.

Open Settings > Advanced > Browser and, under System, click Open your computer's proxy settings. Opera has no proxy form of its own, so this opens the Windows or macOS proxy screen, and the change applies to other apps too.
Not separate ones. Opera GX uses the system proxy through the same Open your computer's proxy settings link as Opera. To put only GX on a proxy, start it with --proxy-server or install a proxy extension.
Opera GX could not reach the internet, often because the system proxy points to a server that doesn't answer. Turn the proxy off or fix its host and port. If pages load only with the proxy off, allow Opera GX in your firewall or antivirus.
It doesn't hide your IP. With data savings on, Opera Mini loads pages through Opera's servers, but it passes your own IP to sites in the X-Forwarded-For header. Mini also has no country choice and no field for your own proxy.
Opera for Android and Opera Mini have no proxy field. Set a manual proxy on the Wi-Fi network in Android settings instead. That proxy is HTTP only and usually has no username or password fields, so use an IP-whitelisted proxy. Also turn off Opera's VPN and data savings.
