UC Browser Proxy Wi-Fi and SOCKS5 Setup for Android and iPhone

UC Browser works on

  • Android
  • iOS
  • Windows
  • macOS

Key facts

  • No proxy setting inside UC Browser

UCWeb documents no proxy setting in UC Browser. Your proxy goes into the phone's Wi-Fi settings (HTTP) or an app such as Super Proxy (SOCKS5), and an IP check shows whether UC Browser uses it.

  • Blocked in India since June 2020

India's IT ministry blocked UC Browser on June 29, 2020, under Section 69A of the IT Act, and neither Google Play nor the App Store lists it for India. Readers there can run the same phone setup with Chrome on Android.

  • UC Cloud Boost skips HTTPS pages

With UC Cloud Boost on, UCWeb's Terms of Use say plain http:// pages go through a UCWeb proxy and https:// pages don't. Citizen Lab saw the same split on Android in 2016, so check your proxy on an https:// page.

Which proxy type to use with UC Browser

UC VPN covers quick country switches. Add your own proxy when you need a home-ISP IP in one exact country.

How to set up a proxy for UC Browser

Copy proxy.geonode.io and your proxy username and password from the Geonode dashboard, then pick an HTTP port for Wi-Fi settings or a SOCKS5 port for Super Proxy.

  1. On the Wi-Fi network the phone will use, open Whitelisted IPs in Geonode dashboard settings, click Detect My IP, then Add.

  2. On a Pixel, open Settings > Network & internet > Internet and tap that network.

  3. Tap Edit, then Advanced options.

  4. Under Proxy, open the menu and pick Manual.

  5. Type proxy.geonode.io in Proxy hostname and an HTTP port (not a SOCKS5 one) in Proxy port, then tap Save.

  6. Turn off UC VPN in UC Browser's Settings menu if it is on.

  7. Close and reopen UC Browser. Some apps read proxy settings only at startup.

How to check that UC Browser uses the proxy

  1. Turn off UC VPN and open https://geonode.com/what-is-my-ip in a UC Browser tab. If it shows your proxy's address and country, UC Browser uses the proxy; your own address means it does not.

  2. Turn Wi-Fi off and reload. On mobile data a Wi-Fi proxy no longer applies and your carrier's address returns. Super Proxy keeps the proxy address.

How to turn the proxy off

  1. Android: in the network's Advanced options, set Proxy to None and tap Save.

  2. iPhone: go to Settings > Wi-Fi > info button > Configure Proxy, choose Off and tap Save. Super Proxy on either phone: open the running profile and tap Stop.

  3. Once you stop using that network, click Delete next to its IP under Whitelisted IPs in the Geonode dashboard.

Common UC Browser proxy problems and fixes

  • IP check still shows your own address

    Cause
The phone left the network you edited, or UC Browser was already open when you saved the proxy. UC Browser may also ignore the Wi-Fi proxy
    Fix
Check that Manual is still selected on the network's proxy screen, then restart UC Browser. If the IP doesn't change, use Super Proxy, which works on both phones.
  • Residential traffic runs out faster than planned

    Cause
Files saved with UC Browser's video downloader count toward per-GB billing when they go through the proxy
    Fix
Stop Super Proxy or set the Wi-Fi proxy to None before a large download, then turn it back on.
  • Android Wi-Fi proxy keeps failing authentication

    Cause
The network's public IP isn't on your Geonode whitelist, or it changed after you added it
    Fix
Whitelist the IP the network has now, or switch to Super Proxy with Username/Password.
  • Country differs from the one you chose

    Cause
UC VPN is still connected, or neither the proxy username nor the port you entered carries a country
    Fix
Turn off UC VPN. In Super Proxy or on an iPhone, add -country- and the code to the username; for Android Wi-Fi, use a port you assigned a country under Port Configuration in the dashboard.

UC Browser proxy FAQ

UCWeb documents none, and its site and blog cover UC VPN instead. Set the proxy on the phone (Android Wi-Fi Advanced options, iPhone Configure Proxy or an app such as Super Proxy), then check the IP in UC Browser.

Yes, for testing. Take an HTTP entry from the Geonode free proxy list for the Wi-Fi fields or a SOCKS5 entry for Super Proxy, then run an https:// IP check in UC Browser. Public entries go offline often.

UCWeb's blog gives the path: open the Settings menu in UC Browser, turn on the VPN feature and pick a server. It runs on the free trial or a Premium Plan. Turn it off the same way before you test a Geonode proxy.

UC VPN suits a quick switch: its Premium Plan gives 13 country lines on up to five devices. Pick a proxy for a home-ISP IP in a country you choose, or for one IP across all apps through a proxy app.

None that UCWeb documents. It offers UC Browser for Windows and macOS, and its blog says UC Browser renders with Blink, Chrome's engine. Set the proxy in Windows or macOS, then check the IP in UC Browser.

No. Google Play, the App Store and ucweb.com list no UCWeb app called UC Browser Handler. Treat a Handler APK as third-party and don't type proxy or account passwords into one.
